Driving the truck

Braeden and I went to the Children's Museum Sunday while Mat was doing auto cross. He won his class, by the way! Even got a trophy! Poor car didn't get to take a victory lap, though, since Mat and Braeden were in a minor fender bender Monday morning on the way to day care. They're both fine, the car, not so much. Mat's got a loaner for the week while his car is in the shop. The other driver ran a red light in Gibsonville, but fortunately neither of them were driving too fast so the outcome wasn't so bad.

But anyway, at the Children's Museum Braeden wanted to drive the fire truck. So I snapped this picture to send to Mat so he'd know what we were up to that day. We had a great afternoon at the museum. Braeden played in the sand for about 45 minutes then sat in the fire truck for another 45. He did not want to come home!

How cute is this kid?! He's wearing a new outfit from MeMa and P-Pa and his baseball cap.

We had to go to Lowe's today for bird seed. While Mat went to get the seed, Braeden and I hung out with the tractors. He really liked this John Deere one!

When we finished our errands Saturday, Mat took the groceries into the house and Braeden and I sat on the driveway.

Mommy, come here

I know when I hear Braeden say those words in the morning over the monitor, it's time to head upstairs. When Braeden wakes up, we can hear him rustling around first. Then the talking starts. He has a lot to say first thing in the morning. I guess for a while he's just as happy talking to the dog, pig, and Elmo. But after a while, he gets bored of that. That's when he starts saying Mommy, come here. And he'll say it over and over again until I show up.

I love that he's 100% certain I'll come up.

Under there

One night this weekend Braeden and I were sitting on my bed talking and listening to music. We had already taken his shirt off since we were getting ready for bath time, so I asked if he wanted to get under the covers. He said yes, uh uh, his new catch phrase, and we snuggled under the blanket. Braeden thought this was so funny! He loved being under there with me. Then he would peek out from under the blanket and laugh. He still loves hiding, and I'm sure he thought we were completely invisible under there.

Now when we're in his room lying on the floor at bed time, he asks for the blanket. Under there, he says. I pull his quilt off the crib and we put it over our heads. Sometimes Daddy is allowed to stay under with his, but sometimes Braeden pushes him out!

Beach Photos

I LOVE these pictures I took in Beaufort and at the beach!

A dock like this one goes for about $150,000! But wouldn't you just love to sit at the end of it and listen to the gentle lapping of the waves slapping your sailboat?

Here's the boat of my it wrong that it makes me think of Pacey on Dawson's Creek?

And this is the boat I could afford now!

A very nice woman got out from under a blanket and took this picture for us before we headed home. It was about 40 degrees on the beach that morning and windy. But it was sunny and beautiful, so it was well worth the trip.

This is a great photo of MeMa and Braeden after his bath.

Braeden doesn't love brushing his teeth, but it went a lot easier when MeMa brushed her teeth with him!

Here's MeMa and P Pa reading books with Braeden before bed.

We had a great visit with MeMa and P Pa last week! (I'm trying out the names without hyphens...I like MeMa that way, but P Pa is awkward without a hyphen. It doesn't seem worth thinking about, does it?)

MeMa and P Pa brought the castle and people with them since Braeden has been talking about it since Christmas. He LOVES it. Drags it all over the downstairs to play with it in the bedroom, kitchen, living room, or by the front door. We were commenting on the fact that the little flag flying from one of the turrets has survived as long as it has, and now I'm pleased to say Braeden drags it around the house by the flag. :)

During their almost weeklong visit, I think Braeden spent a total of 10 minutes on the ground. He insisted on being carried by MeMa or P-Pa (the hyphen has returned!). And he would have nothing to do with Mat or me during their visit. He only wanted MeMa to change his diaper, or P-Pa to read to him at night. Fortunately, we've returned to normal since they've gone...meaning it's back to all mommy, all the time. And I couldn't be happier!

MeMa and P-Pa got to spend an overnight alone with B so that Mat and I could go to the beach for the night. We had a fantastic time in Beaufort and Atlantic Beach and a great dinner at the Sanitary in Morehead City. The highlight of dinner was watching a couple of dolphins play in the inlet outside our window. The highlight of the trip was my gorgeous birthday present, a beautiful ring! Thanks, Matty!

I'm sure I'll think of more to to come!

A taste of so more to come...

There is so much to write about, but it's going to take a while to get it all out here. So, I'll write a little about my birthday. I know, I know, you're thinking but this is Braeden's blog. And yes, you're right, but this is really a story about Braeden. It just happens to have to do with my birthday.

Monday was my 31st birthday. As we were finishing dinner, Mat asked Braeden if he could wish me a happy birthday. Braeden said no which made us laugh. And while we were laughing, he started singing happy birthday. From Braeden, it sounds like 'oppy birday to you, oppy birday to you'. And that's what he signs, over and over again. Over the weekend, he learned to sing 'oppy birday dear mommy'. It is too sweet!

To capture this wonderful singing on my birthday, I grabbed my cell and started recording. With my cell, I can only record videos of about 13 seconds. The quality and sound are terrible. And there's very little I can do with the video once I've taken it. He sings this song to me all the time now, so I'll record it with the camcorder and post it to youtube soon.

Suffice it to say, it's the cutest thing EVER.

Epa Bunny!

Mat spent Saturday in Davidson at a conference with his honors student. So I took Braeden to the Gibsonville Easter Egg Hunt. I wasn't sure how he well he would do, but he was a natural, as you can see from the pictures. There was a person in an Easter Bunny costume, but Braeden wouldn't go anywhere near him. He did LOVE calling him Epa Bunny though! At the end of the hunt, Braeden and the other kids played on one of Gibsonville's firetrucks.

Braeden has his competitive, gameface on in this pic...

Look how well he carries that basket!

Ride 'em Cowboy!

Ooma, one of the women on our street, has these two geese in her yard. Months ago she told us that her grandchildren liked to ride the geese and said that Braeden could ride them any time. Recently, he decided that riding the geese was LOTS of fun.

Ooma also has a birdbath that Braeden likes to play with. But he was calling it bathbird and for the longest time I couldn't figure out what he wanted. Once we got over to Ooma's yard, I realized what bathbird meant.

Oh, by the way, the face Braeden is making in this picture is what he does when I tell him to smile. :)
